Arguably Swansea’s biggest asset is its seafront, with its beaches attracting legions of visitors from outside the area every year. But among the water and sand on Bay can be found beer bottles, ice-cream cartons and dog mess, which can sometimes spoil the experience for visitors.
BMHS is passionate about keeping the environment clean and we know that we are not alone. The Beach Clean Event held in partnership with Surfers Against Sewage’s at Rhossili Beach on the 21st of August 2021 was a huge success despite the Weather forecast. Over forty volunteers turned up including BMHS Team Members at the Rhossili Bay which has 3 miles of gorgeous sand and coastline. Perfect for walkers, water sports and wonderful views!
All volunteers were provided with cleaning kits to ensure that we work as effectively as possible and avoid unnecessary disruption to other members of the public. Many thanks to
Rhossili Bay Management for offering free carpark for our volunteers and to Swansea Council for providing fee bus to Rhossili.
During the clean-up exercise, Riaz Hassan, Regional Community Cohesion Coordinator for Local Authorities who joined the noble cause spotted a marine animal washed off the sea by the waves several miles away. Luckily it was still alive, and we carried it back to the ocean!
Indeed, the only way forward, if we are going to improve the quality of the environment, is to get everybody involved. – Richard Rogers
