Admiral 10k race to raise mental health awareness

Updated: Sep 30, 2022

BMHS is excited to be part of the Admiral 10k race to raise mental health awareness in the community and highlight our partnership with GWR for the delivery of fully funded Mental Health Awareness courses.

The courses will aim to give participants the skills to be able to recognise, understand and support people with mental health and mental distress. We expect the project to benefit over 50 community members. For too long mental health research has not been representative of the diverse society that we live in. Alfred Oyekoya, Director of BMHS said “by actively championing voices from diverse backgrounds, investing in new talent, and by increasing the participation of under-represented groups and those with lived experience in our training and research process, we will be working to actualise our vision of Inspiring a Mentally Healthy Community” Rita Akonobi, BMHS Project Manager mentioned that “At the end of this awareness and skills course, communities members will recognize the main signs and symptoms of common mental health issues and be in a position to guide others towards appropriate professional help and be mindful of their own wellbeing”
